There are hardly any households that can do without a washing machine. No wonder because the popular household appliance makes daily housework easier than almost any other.
Many people panic when their washing machine stops pumping, fearing a costly gadget problem. Fortunately, this is only true in rare circumstances, and you can typically handle the situation yourself for less money.
Why does the washing machine stop draining?

If the washer cannot pump out the water, the clothing will not be spun, and the wash cycle will be terminated. Without more effort, the door cannot be opened. A thorough troubleshooting process is required to identify the reasons, which should be performed in the sequence given.
Tip: Check the power supply
First and foremost, ensure that the washing machine is still turned on and connected to power. Is the washing machine properly plugged in, or has the fuse blown? If this is the case, the problem should be immediately fixed by reconnecting the power source and turning on the machine.
First aid: pump off the water
If the problem remains after verifying the electricity, the machine must be drained of water and the clothes removed from the drum before continuing. Manual draining instructions should be found in your washing machine's instruction manual. In most cases, a drainage pipe is located near the lint filter. If your washing machine is on the floor and the water pressure is too low to drain into a bucket, use a baking sheet.
Washing Machine Does Not Drain – What To Do?
After you have made sure that the fault was not caused by a lack of power and that you have let the water out of the machine, you should now start troubleshooting.
Lint filter
If the washing machine no longer pumps water, the most common cause is a blocked fluff filter. It separates the drum from the pump and collects lint and other debris. If the filter becomes clogged, the water cannot drain, and the washing operation is halted.
Cleaning the sieve is a simple solution to this problem. However, you must drain the machine beforehand. Otherwise, the water will stream out when the fluff filter is opened. To avoid blockage, clean the lint filter once a month.
Drain hose
Even if you've cleared the lint filter and the washing machine still won't drain, the drain line may be to blame. This is located on the back of the device. To eliminate kinks, move the hose.
Unless the issue is resolved after removing the kinks, it is necessary to remove the drain pipe and check for clogs. Assemble the hose in a bucket to avoid flooding. To clean the hose, immerse it in water with a cleaning chemical for several hours. Drain cleaners can also remove stubborn dirt.
Drain pump
The pump may be blocked if the washing machine still does not drain water after examining the drain hose. To check for a foreign body in the pump, remove the lint filter and shine a flashlight inside. If the problem persists, the pump may be faulty. A rattling sound indicates this and should be evaluated by a professional.
Siphon
A clogged or poorly placed siphon may also be the source of the obstruction. This is especially true with twin siphon connections, which link a washer and dryer. The installation orientation is essential since the integrated check valves might produce backpressure. To verify, disassemble the siphon and inspect it for proper installation or obstructions.
Other causes
If all prior attempts to remedy the problem have failed, a professional is generally the only option. Some of the washing machine's components may have failed, including the drain pump or the v-belt. Attempting to repair or replace the V-belt or drain pump yourself is not advised due to the risk of further irreversible damage caused by experimenting with the pricey technology.
