Cloth diapers have evolved into true high-tech diapers in recent years. You had nothing to do with cloth diapers a few decades ago: boiling them, utilizing complex folding and wrapping procedures, or wearing unpleasant rubber pants.
It's all gone! Sadly, many parents are unaware of this since huge industrial entities have used advertising to drive the cloth diaper out of the market.
Cloth diapers of today are equally as effective as disposable diapers. The main difference is that you wash cloth diapers instead of throwing them away. In addition, they include snaps and Velcro closures made of a soft and comfy cloth that makes swaddling a breeze.
Modern cloth diapers have the following: ยท Waterproof outer fabric composed of PUL or wool, which also wicks moisture away from baby's skin.
The modern cloth diapers are made up of:
- Waterproof outer fabric made of PUL or wool
- Absorbent pad
- Diaper fastener, i.e., press studs or Velcro fastener
These components are stitched together or placed in the cloth diaper separately.
How do cloth diapers work?
The parts
Cloth diapers are made up of three parts: moisture protection, absorbent material, and a diaper closure.
We'll demonstrate what it is and how it transforms into a diaper:
1) Moisture protection:
This is made with PUL fabric or wool. It is a barrier that, like outdoor clothes, stops moisture from evaporating. This section of the cloth diaper is responsible for keeping the clothes dry.
2) Absorbent material:
This is available in various fabrics, including hemp, cotton, bamboo viscose, and polyester. In addition, the absorbent material is available in a muslin nappy, prefold, or suction booster. The absorbent material can absorb a wide variety of liquids, and the absorption rate also varies (depending on the material used).
You'll learn which absorbent material is best for you on the page on cloth diaper systems.
3) Diaper closure:
Cloth diapers are closed with Velcro, snaps, or straps (knitted diapers). There are also overpants without a fly, which are worn as underwear.
Cloth diaper systems
Cloth diapering systems are available in one-piece, two-piece, and three-piece configurations. Which system to choose is determined by connecting the two components, absorbent material, and moisture protection. We will demonstrate how various cloth diaper systems operate in the following sections:
One-piece cloth diapers / One-step cloth diapers: All-in-one
The absorbent material and the moisture protection are stitched together in one-piece cloth diapers (AIO). This diaper is quite similar to a disposable diaper in terms of construction and handling.
How do all-in-one cloth diapers work?

One-size diapers are designed to grow with your kid and maybe carried by children weighing 3 kg to 15 kg. First, adjust the snaps (press studs) so that they are parallel to the leg cuffs.
Step 1: Tuck the stitched absorbent material into the diaper flap, so it is hidden.

Step 2: This is how the diaper will look once the absorbent material has been properly placed. The diaper doesn't even show where the absorbent material is located.

Step 3: Cover your baby's diaper with dry fleece or diaper fleece and place it under them. Ascertain that nothing protrudes from the diaper.

To finish, use Velcro or snaps to fasten the all-in-one diaper. Ensure that the distance between the diaper and the Bacuh is no more than a finger's breadth.

Step 5: When changing diapers, the entire diaper is replaced. This is best stored in a moist bag.
Pocket Diapers

The pocket diaper is quite similar to the AIO diaper, except that the absorbent material and moisture protection are not securely attached. Instead, the diaper features a front or rear pocket for storing absorbent material.
How do pocket diapers work?
You may learn how to wrap using a pocket diaper with an absorbent insert here. A pocket diaper has a pocket in the diaper. There, the additional absorbent material can be inserted.
Step 1: It all starts with slipping the absorbent pad into a pocket and sliding it there. After that, you have complete freedom of choice when it comes to the absorbent substance. As a result, you may tailor the suction volume to your child's peeing behavior.

Step 2: Now secure the pocket diaper with a non-woven diaper. It draws the attention of stool. Alternatively, a dry fleece can be used. Neither should peer out of the pocket diaper as it is being fitted.

Step 3: Closing the pocket diaper is the third step. This pocket diaper has a kink in the center, parallel to the Velcro fastening. Snaps were used to modify the diaper to the baby's size in this instance.

Step 4: When changing diapers, it is necessary to replace the entire pocket diaper. To do so, place them in the wet bag until they are put in a washing machine for cloth diapers.
Two-piece cloth diapers/two-step cloth diapers: All-in-two

AI2 diapers separate the absorbent material from the moisture protection. Here you fill wool or PUL diaper cover with deposits, such as prefolds or Mullwindeln.
The absorbent pads are replaced with each diaper change. As they are merely ventilated or wiped, they can be utilized until highly dirty or in touch with stool.
Step 1: Fold the prefold in thirds. You can notice the fold along the seams in the image, which is particularly appropriate for boys. Prefolds are folded in opposing directions for girls. The folded prefold is tucked inside the pants' upper and lower flaps.

Step 2: Cover the folded prefold with another nappy fleece. Ensure that the diaper fleece does not protrude from the trousers.

Step 3: Secure the diaper using snaps (push studs) or Velcro closure, as illustrated below.

When changing diapers, remove the inserts and place them in a wet bag. Continue to wear the overpants as long as they are not excessively filthy.
How do overpants & pant diapers work?
Pant diapers, composed completely of absorbent material, are a great overpants combo since they're super absorbent. Because of that, this is THE diaper for overnight use. The filthy absorbent material is only replaced when the underwear is changed, and the worn overpants are wiped away or allowed to air dry.
This is how the nighttime diaper system looks: Pant diapers with an extra absorbent insert and high absorption capacity. Over them, pull-on overpants are worn.
Step 1: Cover the opening pant diaper with a non-woven diaper or dry fleece. With the non-woven nappy, you can quickly dispose of solid parts; dry fleece ensures a dry feeling on the bottom.
Step 2: The pant diaper is secured with snaps (as seen in the image) or Velcro. No absorbent insert, nappy fleece, or dry fleece should be visible through the nappy.
Step 3: You swaddle it with your overpants. Assure that the pant diaper does not protrude from the pants since this will allow moisture to escape to the outside.
Step 4: To change diapers, remove the pant diaper and place it in a wet bag. Continue to wear the overpants.
Three-part cloth diapers / three-step cloth diapers: All-in-three
The all-in-three (AI3) cloth diaper system is quite rare on the market. It has a beautiful outer diaper (no moisture protection), a waterproof tub, and an absorbent insert. The inner diaper (pouch) is inserted into the outer diaper and filled with absorbent inserts. If the inner diaper becomes dirty, it is removed and cleaned. Then, you can keep using the outer diaper.
An AI3 diaper is available in a variety of sizes. Unfortunately, this implies that you will need to purchase new diapers as your child grows.
How do all-in-three cloth diapers work?
These are the three components of the AI3 Left: outer diaper Middle: tub Right: absorbent pad.
Step 1: Insert the tub into the outer diaper and the tub into the matching absorbent pad. Assemble the absorbent pad in the tub so that it does not protrude or slip out. Alternatively, the outer diaper will become moist. Additionally, you may lay a diaper fleece or a dry fleece on top of the absorbent pad.
Step 2: Place your youngster on the AI3 assembled.
Step 3: Using the Velcro fastening, secure the AI3 and ensure that the outer diaper completely covers the tub.
Step 4: All you have to do while changing diapers is change the insert. The tub and outer diaper can be used indefinitely until they get dirty. Wetbags assist in maintaining an odor-free environment during storage.
